Three Sundays later, and we have the return of our column. Apologies for the delay, but two things: one, my excuse is pretty good (yea, I blame Ultra), and two, this week’s edition is awesome. I called it the We-Missed-You edition for two reasons. One, duh, I missed y’all. Two, it features a few of my favorite songs by artists we all know and love — but haven’t heard them perform in their sets in years.

My first solo foray into the EDM world, I paid my buddy $10 and saw Avicii perform an intimate set at Pacha, and when he played this first song, I nearly cried of happiness, all hyped up, alone in my own Avicii-bubble. Years later, the feeling still returns. Then there’s Jacques Lu Cont, or the Thin White Duke, who somehow kept us in our seats, jumping with this Killers track in Madison Square Garden last year when the Swedish House Mafia — now dissolved — headlined the first electronic show there. Sit back, close your eyes, and know you’re in good hands… It’s time for #SyncBackSunday.

★ Armin Van Buuren feat. Laura V – Drowning (Avicii Mix)

♬ Ellie Goulding – Guns and Horses (JAQUES Jezzy Remix)

While the dubstep genre has the mirage of being a compilation of music-less, comatose-style, throbbing sensations, there are actually quite a few melodic dubsteppers, and alternatives to the static womp-womp for which this category was named. These four, for instance, chose to dub over slow, emotional songs, in a way so smoothly it could still soundtrack your afternoon nap. The first is a new favorite, Adventure Club, who just spun this Foxes remix out a day or two ago. The third, 18-year-old PatrickReza, proved himself a high-grade dubber with his shexy remix of Lana del Rey’s “Video Games”.

★ Foxes – Youth (Adventure Club Dubstep Remix)
♬ Imogen Heap – Just for Now (Gosteffects & Rule of Eight “I’m God” Remix)
♬ Sia – Breathe Me (PatrickReza Remix)
♬ Florence + The Machine – You’ve Got The Love (Mr. Wonk’s Dubstep Mask Mix)
