With the boom in EDM biz this year, New York’s promoters are expectantly on top of the city’s favorite holiday weekend, soon approaching, with October 31st falling on a Wednesday this year. Here’s the SH rundown of where-to-be…

Two days ago, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the release of Dr. No (that’s 1962!), MGM and Universal Records unveiled Adele‘s new theme for the latest in the series, Skyfall (track of the same name). Besides being the singer’s first release since prolonged throat issues, Adele’s addition to the quintessential spy series represents the latest in a long line of powerful Bond woman to do more than just look nice. Now among the ranks of Nancy Sinatra and Shirley Bassey, Adele’s disarmingly sensual and luxurious voice falls nothing short of blowing us away…
An equally unanticipated and fortuitous find, Tridium, a Colorado producer, brings us this amazing, dubby retake on Adele’s excellent work. And a quick turn-around for such a perfect combination of gritty and elegance! Also check out his mash of Morgan Page and Hardwell; an oldie but a goodie.

With the release of Clarity ($) this past Tuesday, fast-rising star Anton Zaslavski — aka Zedd — demonstrates his remarkable aptitude for balancing powerful electronic beats, light, uplifting vocal overlays, and whistle-along-next-day melodies. After last night’s solid performance at New York’s Pacha club with tour co-captain Porter Robinson, the Zeddmonster will definitely be clearing things up on his rise up. Check here for the rest of his tour dates!
The tweet-happy producer-duo Markus Garcia and Jerome Potter, aka LOL Boys, have recently announced a split, after four years of awesome production. Jerome announced on Facebook that the LOL Boys were going on a hiatus to take time to work on their solo craft, but as a parting gift to their devoted following, the Boys released a whole package of edits in a glorious 40-minute mix for The Fader. This edit of Avicii’s “Levels” is outrageously fresh, as well as this cut of “Call Me Maybe”…

NB: Please welcome miz GLaydee to the hard-syncing team!
In 2007, Dave Nada and Matt Nordstrom merged in an amazing allegiance that came to be known as producer-duo Nadastrom. With their wildly-popular Moombahton Massive events each month at the local U Street Music Hall, these moombah afiociandos have earned their keep. This track made the rounds this festival season, but its tribal vocals and hypnotic drop make me twerk it to the floor everytime.
More moombah after the jump…
Take this on 5am runs to the train, daft scrambles at work, attempts at self-revival on the commute home… Canadian duo Project 46 routinely raises the soul with their high-powered tune-ups, and this time they make use of some delicious grinding, fist-pumping sound effects similar almost to sir Zedd… I like!
For the second time this New Years, Lake Tahoe, California, will play host to the Snow Globe Music Festival, a fantastic merger of the area’s beautiful, fresh-powder skiing & boarding slopes and some of the world’s best music. Almost reproduced here in New England earlier this year as Snow Mont, Tahoe will play host to such major artists as Deadmau5, Chromeo, Beats Antique, Big Gigantic, Laidback Luke, MiM0SA, Madeon, Gramatik, Flosstradamus, Minnesota, Baauer, Clockwork, Break Science, GRiZ, Nobody Beats The Drum, Poolside, Chris Lake, Sia, St. Lucia, Dallas K, and Cherub. So, in a word, EPIC. Early bird tickets started at $100 but sold out in a moment’s notice; currently they’re at 155$ (169.15$ comprising fees), available HERE! See ya on the slopes!
Henry Laufer, aka LA-based producer Shlohmo, creates music that evades genre classification: lo-fi, chill wave, trip-hop, experimental pop, and “psychedelic synth-funk” have all been tossed around, though he prefers not to box in his style to one category. At 18, still a senior in high school, he started the Wedidit Collective with his RL Grime. He dropped out of college to make his first album two years ago, and has since been signed to Friends of Friends, releasing two albums.
His music is slow, but precise and romantic. Characterized by strong, hip-hop drum samples and slow, ethereal melodies, a beautiful combination emerges as equally suitable for dancing as for laying on the floor, holding hands. Enjoy some of his stand out tracks (above), and be sure to check out the WeDidIt Collective for more amazing lounge-esque music.
NB: Welcome, MCMC, to the team!
