Remember that über-pretty song I posted by brothers-in-co KO KO? Well L.A.-neighbor dj Sound Remedy just remixed the sh*t out of it… at first, giving it a gorgeous DnB-esque makeover, then a giant, swirling, electronic synth-infused bridge, before dropping back into the catchy chorus with a perfectly snap-along new rhythm.
Okay, this one’s been in the works for quite some time now… a whole mixtape of MASHES! A series of brilliant homages to our favorite indie and pop songs.
Always loved crazy Brooklynite Oh Land, aka Nanna Oland Fabricius (there’s a mouthful), especially this wacky video for her hit, “White Nights”… Her song “Sun of a Gun” was also a big fave, but I couldn’t decide which of the two following remixes I liked more, so why dontcha help me out… Once you’ve voted, click the link again to download, or refresh the page to bring back the playing mode :)
“fuckmylife,” aka Deadmau5 (aka Canadian Joel Zimmerman), has updated his SoundCloud with four — count ‘em, FOUR — brand new originals! Being his usual goofball self, he’s described them as “SimpsonStep,” “StephenSpielbergStep,” “Pigstep,” and “Cthulhustep,” the last referring to a bizarre 1928 pulp magazine fictional character he’s into… Anyway, quite tasty. Be sure to tune in to live.deadmau5.com too, he’s pretty fun to watch at work (though let’s not tell him that, lest his head grow too large for those helmets…:)
Yet the best came a month ago with the release of “The Veldt,” a collaboration with soft-spoken singer Chris James… beautiful. Around the same time, he officially premiered “Maths,” an original mix more heavy on the electronics than the others in this post, but just as awesome.
And though the first two pricing tiers sold out verrrry quickly, there are still plenty of tix left to the amaaaaazing-looking Veld Music Festival, taking place in Toronto August 4th & 5th and featuring the big Mau5 himself! This dude is NOT to be missed live. Over and over, I’ll go…
Wow, I’m actually kinda amazed I haven’t already posted about these two. RAC, or the Remix Artist Collective, is a duo of DJs André Anjos and Karl Kling who teamed up back in ’07. After huge success with their upbeat, poppy remixing wizardry, the two have decided to take it on the road, and with their tour “RAC DJs,” promise to demonstrate their magic LIVE, creating “an engaging soundscape fed by crowd energy and live interaction”. Hot dang. You’ll get why I’m so psyched after listening to these summer-ready new mixes… Then get yourself a $12 ticket (yes, you read that right) to a night of their upcoming two-night stint at the Brooklyn Bowl, Friday, June 29th, with a helping hand from YACHT’s main man, and Saturday, the 30th, with Body Language (who is awesome-possum) — or get a two-day ticket!
Right on the heels of my last Avicii blast, in comes more Avicii goodness, this time in the form of a teaser for his upcoming Le7els tour this summer. The tour is set to include a brand new stage debuted just last week at Coachella featuring 3D-style projections à la Deadmau5, Skrillex, and a few others — only his will be projected onto a giant face-mask at the top of which he DJs… Honestly, you have to see it to believe it, and thanks to the magic camera of Drew Ressler at Rukes.com, you practically can!
Once upon a time… actually, on this day almost exactly one year ago, my life changed. Aside from a very spontaneous, why-the-heck-not Dada Life show a few months prior (who I absolutely didn’t recognize, and in fact thought was called “Ghetto Wife” when G$ tried to shout to me across the booming Pacha dancefloor), I’d never really had an interest in attending a “techno concert,” as I distinctly remember calling it. I probably even made a face. But after a night of possibly the most fun I’d ever had, I started digging a little deeper.
I’d been listening to this 20-year-old named “Avicii” after I’d spotted a song of his called “Penguin” in the lower ranks of The Hype Machine, and after scouting out a few more tunes, had decided this was to be my next “techno show,” as I was still calling them. Unfortunately, I had neither a ticket, nor a companion.
On the night of, out of the blue, a friend I’d made at Dada invited me to join him and his bud, offering me their extra 10-buck ticket for free, and though I hardly knew ‘em at the time, I made a decision I will never regret, and said yes.
Plug your ears, EDM fans. There’s a new fest in town, and it’s aimed exactly at all you New Yorkers who saw the words “Electric Daisy Carnival” and asked how one would electrify a daisy, exactly. Yes, for all you sophisticats, The Great GoogaMooga music and food fest is hittin’ hipster Brooklyn the very same weekend as the MetLife is scheduled to burst with neon light, May 19th & 20th — though, get this, boasts FREE ADMISSION! And the lineup ain’t half bad either, with The Roots and Holy Ghost! headlining Saturday, and Hall & Oates and Fitz & the Tantrums saved for Sunday. And while tickets to the music and various amusements are FREE TODAY @ NOON, the gourmet offerings teased at in the video above will cost you an “Extra-Mooga” ticket, or $249.50 + fees. Still not bad, considering the unlimited helpings of 75 different foodies, 35 different deeeeelicious microbrewers, and 30 winemakers! Damn shame they overlap…
Hardwell‘s been on fire lately. In this sick new vid he let loose recently, he demonstrates how to positively own the stages of Ultra Music Festival and a Miami nightclub, and showcases two of the latest filthy nice releases by his label, Revealed Records: a pulsating collab with fellow Dutchman Danny Dannic and a mix by Revealed’s Dyro and Beatport’s Rene Kuppens. Finally, below’s an extra goodie… a remix of The Naked & Famous… with freakin’ Tiësto!?! God, I just can’t keep up!
Presenting the latest single from The Temper Trap, “Need Your Love,” off their self-titled album, out June 5th in the U.S.! The album is the first to include new fifth band member Joseph Greer on the keyboard and guitar, and first to be produced by Tony Hoffer (Beck, M83, Phoenix…), though that tried-and-true Temper Trap balance of strong, smart vocals and a steady, basic drumbeat hasn’t been diminished! Happy Friday =)
