★ Gramophonedzie – Why Don’t You (Original Mix)

A Serbian participant of the prestigious Red Bull Music Academy, Marko Milićević, aka Gramophonedzie, brings a beautiful lounge hop to old-world big band. Throw in some kooky, eccentric music videos and I’m sold…

13-12-17 damage control

This event is just too good to miss. As part of the tail end of his “Damage Control” U.S. tour, Mat Zo is hosting a meet-and-greet with opening funky guests Treasure Fingers at the legendary (read: outdated and kinda dilapidated, but whatever) Pacha NYC. $10 before midnight. Let’s do this.

PS, As with all Mat Zo songs, let this one some time to warm up. That slowdown at 2-minutes…mmmm!

13-12-16 tchumi

I had the pleasure of meeting Trevor Bones of Gotta Dance Dirty when he spun at Harlot in San Francisco last weekend. When asked for his favorite producers, he recommended Tchami, and I can definitely see why. Tchami is a Parisian producer whose tracks have a specific sound and energy that I can only describe as unique, addicting and dance-inducing. The lack of information on him makes him seem a bit mysterious but I have no doubt that this is one cool dude. If you go to his Janet Jackson remix on SoundCloud and click “Filet Mignon” you will download a secret mixtape…awesome.

★ AlunaGeorge – You Know You Like It (Tchami remix)

13-12-10 skyfall montmartre - banner

From myself and a few other lucky municipal employees, happy snow day! Really vibing to the deep house beat of the two Parisian deejs that make up Montmartre, and now I want to watch James Bond again. Yum. See you tomorrow.

13-11-23 food

Shadow Child and Kry Wolf have more in common than just their wonderfully emo-sounding names. They are both UK-based and recently started their own label together called Food Music. Shadow Child and Kry Wolf as separate ingredients are great, but mix them up and you get something gourmet. “So High” by Shadow Child is such a heavy track that it makes me giddy. I want to listen to this track in a room full of huge speakers.

♬ Shadow Child – So High
♬ Zoë Xenia & Cari Lekebusch – Good Love Sweet Love (Shadow Child remix)

Kry Wolf has become a force to be reckoned with in the underground UK scene over the last couple of months. There is such a wide range in their style of music that they have something for everyone to enjoy.

13-11-28 motez

I learned about Motez when “Take Off” was featured in one of Shadow Child’s mixes. Not surprisingly, Dave Spoon (aka Shadow Child) snatched up the talented Bahgdad-born, Aussie transplant for his new label Food Music.  While his original work is fantastic, some of my favorite tracks of his are remixes of popular songs like Frank Ocean‘s “Thinkin’ Bout You”. With big-name artists already lining up to have Motez work his magic on their tunes, I think he is a producer to watch out for.

♬ Motez – Take Off
★ Frank Ocean – Thinkin’ Bout You (Motez Edit)

Its hard to get someone to want to break it down in a coffee shop, but that’s exactly what’s happening right now as I’m typing this and listening to Motez’ newest release: “Gas Pedal (Motez Edit)” by Sage the Gemini. I’ll definitely be listening to this track on repeat.

13-11-28 dirty south

After a seriously amazing friend scored us tickets to a very intimate preview of Dirty South‘s new album “Speed of Life”, my faith in house music has been completely renewed. Booming basslines met emotional vocals to delicately pattern the beautiful melodies developed by Mr. Roganović (read: Serbian-Australian hotness). Enjoy the shit out of these two — happy ravin’ Thanksgiving!

I will never forget the first time I heard Shpongle perform: the sun was rising over the Baltimore waterfront during the last couple hours of Starscape and just as I was losing steam, a crowd was forming around the main stage. The combination of psychadelic trance, ambient music, and world sounds completely blew me away while their intricately built stage – aptly called Shpongletron – held me captivated for the full 90 minute set. Above is just a glimpse at the production of their first ever stage. Simon just announced a stacked spring tour to promote their new album “Museum of Consciousness” that includes a brand-new Sphongletron 3.0 stage set-up. A definite MUST-SEE if you can get yourself to any of their shows — see where Simon is touring at ShpongleMusic.com!
