Update (7/30): A few hours ago, the official schedule for the two-day Veld Music Festival in Toronto was released — check it out! A few tough decisions choosing between Overwerk or Candyland, Dirty South or Dillon Francis, and the recently added Araabmuzik or Mat Zo. 13-07-24 tim deluxe

Robert Frost is a great American poet, known for artistically depicting life in New England. His work won him a Pulitzer Prize, but his personal life was filled with grief and loss. Frost wrote “Choose Something Like a Star” in 1943. The main themes of the poem include a perspective on humanity’s need for reassurance and isolation of individuals. The poem is written in iambic tetrameter and is often compared to “Bright Star” by John Keats.

Tim Deluxe = Timothy Andrew Liken, a UK-based DJ and producer. You might remember Mr. Deluxe from “It Just Won’t Do”; but I prefer “We All Love Sax” and “Let the Beats Roll”.

♬ Tim Deluxe – Choose Something Like A Star (Poem by Robert Frost)

The original mix of “Choose Something Like a Star” comes from the album, “The Little Ginger Club Kid”, published in 2004. Of course there are other versions, but this is the one I like best. It is one of those songs good for everything; relaxing, partying, exercising, blunt ride, kissing, et

♬ Autoerotique – Asphyxiation (Original Mix)

Tripped upon this song on another blog, but wasn’t fulfilled ’til I’d seen THIS. And have since replayed for just about any male (and some female) friends I hang with… DAMN GOOD!

★ Ellie Goulding – Burn

Cute lil’ Brit popper Ellie Goulding (probably known best for dating Skrillex, if you’re on this site) recently released her first 2013 single, “Burn”, along with an adorably fun video that just adds to those tingly feelings… :)

13-07-17 sound remedy

Though truthfully I can’t pronounce the name of it, Sound Remedy‘s latest masterpiece to be released via SoundCloud is his best yet. The L.A. deej has always had a crazy talent for electro music, but this is his best yet. After the insanely beautiful, sweeping, trance-like opener of the synths and strings we’ve come to love him for, he plunges straight downward into the hellish sexy-dirty depths of trap around the 2-minute mark. Then, after the dirty beats end 30 seconds later and the melody reblooms, he takes it to the territory where he truly outshines the competition – dub. The swirling synths and booming harmonies all converge at 3’17” to create the most endorphin-releasing next minute and a half of your life.

Yes, you could say I enjoyed this one.

★ Sound Remedy – Chiaroscuro

PS He wrote the “I love you” in the comments, not I. Cherry on top.

PPS His website is awesome.

13-07-08 arty grand finale

Back with his first original since Together We Are, our favorite rooskie producer Artyem is on fire again with his big room sound. If he’s starting with the ‘finale’, we can only imagine what’s to follow…

★ Cazzette – Beam Me Up

I love a good mockumentary, so when I finally saw the music video to this infectious house tune from Avicii prodigies Cazzette, it was love at first sight. Add in some humorous social commentary on the EDM scene and its outside perception, and you’ve got my approval…!

♬ Pretty Lights – Around the Block

One of my favorite festival mainstays, Pretty Lights, has a kickass new record coming out just in time for July, “A Color Map of the Sun” (stream it FREE here!). Silky smooth like all the ones before it, this album adds a new dimension through the use of old-timey instruments Derek spent months traveling many miles to dig up. Tickets for the official launch party at the new underground club Output in Brooklyn go on sale at NOON TODAY, and are capped at only 800 people so act fast! Otherwise, you can catch pretty lights at Camp Bisco, Electric Forest, and a number of other amazing festivals across the U.S.

I will absolutely be the first one to admit: I made a mistake. I barely gave this song a 5-second listen before giving it the cold shoulder when I first heard it at Ultra Miami earlier this year. But now that it’s been rehashed in the studio — most noticeably, with a strengthened bass and sped-up melody — I haven’t stopped listening to it since it’s premiere on Pete Tong’s radio show last Friday. And finally, we have a version worth releasing…

One of the greatest kickback rewards of attending EDM activities is the inevitable intense workout you get– from enduring subhuman conditions, dancing for hours, and wrestling the massesto get home on public transit. At the recent Electric Daisy Carnival, my friend’s pedometer recorded that we’d “traveled” a distance of over 10 miles; I don’t even remember how many calories it was. Recently, a few organizations have embraced this culture of athleticism and teamwork from the EDM community to promote some insanely creative events. From glow-in-the-dark runs to foamy mayhem, these events all showcase one of the best parts about our community: everybody’s in such damn good shape!

NB: We’re not profiting from any of these ticket sales, and can’t vouch their awesomeness in their debut year, but damn if they don’t look fun!

Electric Run

I think this is one of my favorite rave-inspired events. Throngs of people dress up in as much neon and glow as possible to run a 5k, all ending with an EDM concert at the finish line. Quickly expanding throughout the U.S., this event comes to Brooklyn on September 28th! PS, if their promo vid didn’t quite entice you, just check out how happy this kid was :)

Three more awesome events after the jump!
