Amon Tobin isn’t a very familiar name, yet his technological innovations power some of the most famous of DJ and live sets on tour today. His skill with the latest technique of 3D-mapping, wherein a 2D image is adjusted by computer algorithms to be projected onto a highly-reflective, 3-dimensional stage, is comparable with no other. He’s also released another EP, “ISAM”, to accompany the most recent of his mind-boggling computer animations, which premiered in Montreal almost a year to go today and is currently still on tour — he’ll be visiting Camp Bisco this July, and if you are too, DON’T MISS THIS! Learn more about Tobin at his official site, and check out another preview of the ISAM tour after the jump!

Update (10:40am): Oops, sorry, that was just cruel. I caught the last 10 minutes of it, thought there was a second show (but there isn’t). My bad! But be sure to catch Amon at Bisco this year — his work is truly unbelievable till seen with your own eyes.

Woke up early? Enjoy Tobin’s version of Saturday morning cartoons — he’s performing his amazing show of visuals and tranquil music LIVE, right now, at the Sydney Opera House, via YouTube here!

After eyeing this glorious May the 4th post nostalgically (still feeling bad about never posting anything this year…oops my b…) and revisiting Clint Beastlook’s amazing Star Wars theme remix, I went a bit further down the rabbithole, and though his SoundCloud reveals little, dude’s got some seriously smooth tracks!

Even a Portishead mix?! Alright now you’re definitely a favorite:

★ Pretty Lights – You Get High

While we were all out doing whatever we were doing this past New Years Eve, Derek Vincent Smith, aka Pretty Lights, decided to throw himself a pretty friggin sweet new years party of his own. Returning to his roots near Denver, PL did a double-night stand, with friends Porter Robinson, Supervision, and SH-fave Zedd all joining in on the fun. The end result? See for yourself, in this live-footage based music video for his latest glitchy, grungy single, “You Get High”.

♬ Oddisee – The Blooming or $

Belgium’s ZBS Studio reached out to Mello Muisc Group about permission to do a video for Oddisee’s “The Blooming”. The resulting marriage of visual storytelling & instrumental perfection is a narrative work that tells the story of time’s passage in the life of a boy. The video was directed, shot, & edited by Tomasz Cibulla and Wojciech Drożdż of ZBS Studios in Belgium.

“Over a century ago Thomas Edison got the patent for a device which would “do for the eye what the phonograph does for the ear”. He called it the Kinetoscope. He was not only amongst the first to record video, he was also the first person to own the copyright to a motion picture.

“Because of Edison’s patents for the motion pictures it was close to financially impossible to create motion pictures in the North American east coast. The movie studios therefor relocated to California, and founded what we today call Hollywood. The reason was mostly because there was no patent. There was also no copyright to speak of, so the studios could copy old stories and make movies out of them – like Fantasia, one of Disneys biggest hits ever.”

– The Pirate Bay

“So FUCK ACTA, SOPA, PIPA and any bill that wants to give corporations the power to regulate and censor the internet, especially if those same corporations built their empires solely on copyright infringement!”

– Gramatik

Amen. And props to an awesome new EP, #digitalfreedom (available for free, of course!), by the ridiculously-talented Pretty Lights-managed Slovenian producer Gramatik. Choice favorites:

♬ Bondax – Just Smile For Me (ft. Bobbie Gordon)

Bondax, aka the duo 17 and 18-year-old George Townsend and Adam Kaye, reminded me a lot of Koreless and his light-hearted beeps and boops; wonderfully zen lounge music — but always with a strong sense of direction. Unbelievable talent.

♬ Daedelus – Fair Weather Friends

Big thanks to my good friend A$ for turning me onto this goofy little animation. California electro wizard Daedelus, aka Alfred Darlington, “part time Dandy, full time Musician”, makes super kooky (read: awesome) work. And his kookiness seems to have reached all the way ’round the globe, picked up on by one of my favorites, Star Slinger, in this sweet rendition of “Overwhelmed”. Enjoy!

Proudly presenting the awesome North Carolina-native, L’Orange. This dude magnificently improves upon the best parts of the genre Pretty Lights, Wax Tailor, and only a few skillful others manage to perpetuate, using a combination of old soundbites, the classiest of lounge beats, and supersuave transitions…

♬ Bonobo – Eyesdown (Machinedrum Remix)

Oooh… you know how I like a good ol’ crazy animation…and with this cool song from Frenchy-favorite Bonobo, it’s a must. Last summer, I made the most regrettable decision and passed up an opportunity to hear this extraordinary DJ entertain a cruise around Manhattan isle… Bah silly me. Hear more why:
