Though the trek is a bit far for us New Yorkers, I’m really kicking myself for not listening to my peers when they insisted I check out Michigan’s Electric Forest Festival this year — especially since this awesome recap vid dropped on the first of the month. The full-of-smiles video features a perfect song selection for the outdoorsy, lakeside festival of indie-meets-EDM, and showcases many of the sweeeeet improvements made since 2012′s Forest: a much grander central meeting area (aka Sherwood Court), cooler lighting, and easier accessibility to the lakes and natural features of the property, for starters.
Since we were not there for this year’s Electric Forest, this page will serve up the latest updates on EF 2014. Hope to see you in the forest!
Cute lil’ Brit popper Ellie Goulding (probably known best for dating Skrillex, if you’re on this site) recently released her first 2013 single, “Burn”, along with an adorably fun video that just adds to those tingly feelings… :)
I love a good mockumentary, so when I finally saw the music video to this infectious house tune from Avicii prodigies Cazzette, it was love at first sight. Add in some humorous social commentary on the EDM scene and its outside perception, and you’ve got my approval…!
One of my favorite festival mainstays, Pretty Lights, has a kickass new record coming out just in time for July, “A Color Map of the Sun” (stream it FREE here!). Silky smooth like all the ones before it, this album adds a new dimension through the use of old-timey instruments Derek spent months traveling many miles to dig up. Tickets for the official launch party at the new underground club Output in Brooklyn go on sale at NOON TODAY, and are capped at only 800 people so act fast! Otherwise, you can catch pretty lights at Camp Bisco, Electric Forest, and a number of other amazing festivals across the U.S.
Smirnoff collaborated with UK’s DJ Fresh on a really amazing project that enabled people with disabilities to produce music using brain impulses and ocular movements… Welcome to the future. Watch the full documentary here.
With Shazam and similar music-identifying apps all the rage now, any TV producer will agree a key element to a successful show is its music selection. So I cheer on one of my favorites, “The Newsroom”, with the addition of this indie song from overseas by Brit Tom Odell, only 22 years old and already a winner of the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award, earlier this year.
Update (5/27): After selling out two days at the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn in just minutes, Sensation has unsurprisingly announced its return this fall, addings stops in San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Miami as well. Sign up to be a “Club Member” (free) and you’ll get priority access when tickets go on sale. Get your whites ready…
